Erin Farrer, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist who specializes in treating adult patients diagnosed with anxiety disorders (including posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder), depressive disorders, stress related to chronic illness (such as cardiovascular disease), and sleep disorders. She believes in the collaboration among providers and patients in order to engender empowerment. She is working with Ohio Psychiatry Specialists at the Independence, OH location.
Dr. Farrer earned her Ph.D. at the University of Toledo and fulfilled her internship requirements at the Louis Stokes Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. Dr. Farrer also completed post-doctoral training at the Summa Center for the Treatment and Study of Traumatic Stress (CTSTS) in Akron, OH. Through her various trainings, she has been exposed to using various treatments in practice such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and those designed specifically to aid in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, including prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy.
In 2011, Dr. Farrer joined Summa Health System as a staff psychologist splitting her time between in the CTSTS, the Summa Cardiovascular Institute, and for a short time, the Summa Neuroscience Center. She joined Ohio Psychiatry Specialists in 2016 and is excited about continuing to collaborate in a multidisciplinary setting.
Dr. Farrer’s philosophy of practice balances the importance of compassion and empowerment in the therapeutic relationship. She uses empirically supported treatments to lay the groundwork for optimal effects. She believes in working together with her patients to establish goals, encourage change, and maintain valued living.
